What Keepto is

What is Keepto?

Keepto is software installed on your computer. It connects ChatGPT's chat to your computer, so ChatGPT can read projects, edit files, run tests, organize documents and process images and videos right on your computer. It uses chat usage and doesn't touch Codex usage. You choose which folders to share and how much permission to give, and you can take it back anytime.

Usage & ChatGPT plans

What is chat usage? What is Codex usage?

ChatGPT can be used three ways. First, be clear on where the work happens and how usage is counted:

How you use itWhere it worksHow usage is counted
GPT ChatPlain chat Q&A — on its own it can't touch your computerIts own pool, nearly unlimited* for everyday use
GPT WorkWorks in ChatGPT's own cloud workspace — a different space from your computerShares the weekly allowance with Codex, metered by tokens
CodexCan work on your own computerShares the weekly allowance with Work, metered by tokens

*"Nearly unlimited" follows the current ChatGPT Pro plan rules and OpenAI's fair use policy; actual usage is subject to OpenAI's announcements.

If a job takes a long time, does it use more usage?

A job you submit through Keepto in a GPT chat counts as just 1 message no matter how long it runs, and doesn't use any additional Codex or API usage. Each new job you submit after that counts separately.

My Codex usage is used up. Can Keepto still work?

Yes. Keepto runs your computer work on GPT chat usage, counted separately from the weekly pool shared by Codex and GPT Work — so after Codex usage runs out, Keepto can keep working on your computer.

I'm on Plus. Do I need to upgrade to Pro?

No. Plus has a smaller Codex allowance, so the difference is usually felt the most: Keepto moves your computer work to chat usage, and GPT-5.6 handles everyday work nearly unlimited*, which effectively multiplies your usable working time — no need to upgrade to Pro just to get more done.

Does Keepto use up my Astra allowance?

To use Astra in a chat, just switch the model to GPT-6 Pro — GPT-6 Pro is Astra. Through Keepto, finishing a whole job with Astra costs just 1 message, not metered step by step. Astra's allowance in chat: 50 messages a week on Pro $100, 100 a week on Pro $200 (starting October 30, 2026). Plus has no Astra in chat at all — it can only use Astra in GPT Work and Codex, drawing on the shared pool by tokens, so it runs out fast.

Does Keepto include a ChatGPT subscription?

No. Keepto connects to your own ChatGPT account; the ChatGPT subscription is something you subscribe to separately from OpenAI. Your account must support adding and using the required custom app tools; availability depends on your plan and account settings, so please check before you subscribe.

Computers, files & permissions

Which computers can I use?

Windows and Mac can both be installed and used.

Can Keepto access my whole computer?

No. Keepto itself is only the medium and doesn't touch your files. The one actually reading and writing files is ChatGPT, and only within the folders you open to it: start with read-only, then open up editing and execution once you're sure, and revoke anytime.

Within the range you open, ChatGPT does real work with your permissions, so only enable execution in projects you trust, and look carefully at important actions before confirming them.

Will all my files stay on my computer?

Your files stay on your computer. Keepto only connects your computer and ChatGPT and doesn't store your files itself; ChatGPT only reads within the folders you open.

Can it keep working when my computer is off or offline?

No. The work runs on your computer, so your computer needs to stay on and keep its internet connection.

Trial, subscription & activation

Do I need to add a payment method first for the free trial?

No. Keepto offers a 7-day free trial — no card required.

How many computers can one plan activate?

Current yearly plans are US$29.9 for 1 computer, US$39.9 for 2 computers and US$49.9 for 3 computers. Please choose based on how many computers you'll actually use before you subscribe.

Do paid plans renew automatically?

Yes. Yearly plans renew automatically when they expire. During the subscription, you can cancel anytime from your account page; access continues until the end of the current period. The free trial needs no card and does not automatically convert to a paid plan.

What is an activation code?

An activation code activates your Keepto license on your computer. After you complete a trial application or subscription, get it and enter it following the instructions on your account page and in the transaction email.

Can I get a refund if I subscribed by mistake or can't use it?

No. The 7-day free trial exists so you can first confirm Keepto runs on your computer and works smoothly for you; subscribe once you're sure it's a fit. No refunds are provided after subscribing.
